Calcite Dolomite Article About Calcite Dolomite
...
Is it Calcite or Dolomite? Magzter
Dolomite never forms in scalenohedral, or “dogtooth”, crystals, which is one of the common forms of calcite. Also, calcite forms flat, rhomboid “poker chip” crystals, but dolomite does not. Calcite responds vigorously to acid, while dolomite responds less vigorously. Calcite is 3 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, but dolomite is Mohs 4-4.5.

Sep 01, 2019· Dolomite in MET 01070 have similar δ 13 C signatures as Mn-poor calcite, but is depleted in 18 O. Relative to Mn-rich calcite grains, dolomite have similar δ 18 O composition, but are depleted in 13 C. Overall, the data fall into two groups on a δ 13 C vs. δ 18 O plot.

The mechanical and microstructural behaviour of calcite
Jan 01, 2015· In low dolomite composites, dolomite grains act to increase the strength of shear zones relative to 100% calcite, presumably because the fine-grained calcite must flow around rigid dolomite grains. In high dolomite content samples, two deformation mechanisms likely occur concomitantly (either in parallel or in series) during shear: brittle

Resetting of Mg isotopes between calcite and dolomite
Jul 01, 2017· Based on the experimentally derived Mg isotope fractionation factors for dolomite and calcite, a temperature of 150–190 °C was calculated to correspond to the 0.72‰ Δ 26 Mg dolomite-calcite fractionation. Such temperature range matches with the burial-thermal history of the local strata, making a successful case of Mg isotope geothermometry.

Calcite and Dolomite Pitt
Calcite and dolomite are very similar minerals. Both have the same hardness (H = 3), the same rhombohedral cleavage, and are found in identical geologic settings. The best way to tell one from the other is the acid test: a drop of 1 M HCl on calcite produces an instant, obvious fizz; a drop on dolomite produces slow or no obvious bubbling.

QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF CALCITE AND DOLOMITE
Calcite and dolomite were differentiated quantitatively from calcite‐dolomite mixtures and limestones by a method based on the quantitative dissolution of calcite in pH 5.85N citrate buffer. The acidity and chelating ability of citrate favoured greatly the dissolution of calcite to that of dolomite.

Retention of phosphorus on calcite and dolomite
It is interesting to note that the Mg content in dolomite favors the rapid growth of DCP at phosphorus levels >200 mg L −1. As a result, at pH ≥ 8.0, dolomite shows a stronger capacity for immobilizing phosphorus than does calcite. Dolomite therefore serves as a better phosphorus sink than calcite in calcareous soil environments.
